Deep Cove Park / Panorama Park Planning Study

June 2011 Update

The final Panorama Park and Deep Cove Park Planning Study  has been received by Council for information. The Staff Cover Report summarizes recommended strategies, implementation priorities and costs. Many of the recommendations will be phased in over the next five years. In 2011 the Parks Department will develop detailed plans for the three lots. Parks received $50,000 under the 2011 Capital Parks Program to initiate the next steps to develop the three lots, including:

  •  Removal of the remaining hedge and topped trees along the park side of the ‘S’ curve of Panorama Drive to open up the traffic sight lines for vehicular safety. This step has been completed.
  • Clean up site, remove shrubs to open up the site and to visually and physically connect it to the rest of Panorama Park; re-landscape.
  • Re-grade site to create connecting pathways.
  • Removal of invasive species and native restoration planting in riparian zone beside creek. Much of this work was completed by a team of volunteers from Telus and the neighbourhood on May 28

The District of North Vancouver recently acquired three residential lots at 2398, 2412 and 2420 Panorama Drive in Deep Cove for parkland. With the integration of the three lots into Panorama Park, there is an opportunity to review broader park issues.

The purpose of this study is to:

• review the demands and needs for recreation within Deep Cove Park and Panorama Park.

• analyze opportunities and challenges.

• prepare plans for the short-term improvement of the three new lots, and the long-term enhancement of the two parks

The first open house (OPEN HOUSE #1) was held on July 28, 2010, at which time the project analysis and first phase of a demolition and restoration plan for the three lots were displayed.

In response to initial feedback from Open House #1, design ideas and management options were developed and presented at a public open house (OPEN HOUSE #2) on October 28, 2010. This second open house was very well attended, with attendees providing valuable input in discussion groups and on comment forms.

Conceptual plans and recommendations were further refined in response to feedback from residents from Open House #2. The updated planning study was posted on this website in February of 2011, with residents given the opportunity to provide input. Comments were reviewed and considered for integration into the final planning study.
