Richard Walton
|
Richard Walton is serving his third term as Mayor of North Vancouver District, and is in his 18th year of elected public service. Mayor Walton also serves on the following Boards: Metro Vancouver's Finance Committee, the Municipal Finance Authority of BC, and the Fraser Basin Council. In 2013 he was elected by his peers to a third term as Chair of the Mayors Council serving Vancouver’s regional transit authority. Richard Walton graduated with a BA from the University of British Columbia, an MA from Simon Fraser University, and is a member of the British Columbia Institute of Chartered Accountants, where in 2011 he was elected a Fellow (FCA) for lifetime service to the profession. Additionally, he has guided tours through Scandinavia, Russia and Eastern Europe, taught and administered within the public school system, practiced as a chartered accountant, owned and operated the largest video retail chain in Canada and served as corporate executive with public and private companies in the retail, technology and construction sectors. In 2011 Mayor Walton received, on behalf of North Vancouver District, the United Nations Sasakawa Award for World Leadership in the area of Planning for and Responding to Natural Disasters. In 2004 he founded and chaired the first World Mountain Bike Festival held in Vancouver and in 1999 he chaired the BC Games for Athletes with a Disability. In 2013 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for Distinguished Service to his community.
Mayor Walton still plays league ice hockey and is a passionate outdoorsman. He and his wife have four adult children and two grandchildren. |

Roger Bassam was first elected to District Council in 2008 and was re-elected in November of 2011. A resident of North Vancouver since 1983, Roger graduated from Carson Graham High School in 1987 and subsequently earned a BA in Political Science from SFU and a Certificate of Technology from BCIT. He currently works in the information technology sector and has previous management experience in the retail industry. Sports have always been central to Roger’s life. He still plays soccer in Millar’s North Shore Soccer League, of which he has been the Co-President since 1996, the same year he became active in local politics. Roger also volunteers as a coach with his children’s soccer and lacrosse teams. His ten years of service on the North Vancouver Sports Advisory Committee was a memorable experience enhanced by his love of athletic pursuits. Roger was the first Chair of the Field User’s Capital Fund during this time, in addition to serving two years on the District Parks and Natural Environment Advisory Committee. Roger’s Council committee roles have included the Joint Bicycle Advisory Committee and as an alternate on the Metro Labour Relations Board. He is currently the District Council representative on the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Board, a position he has held since 2008. Roger’s other Council roles include the Highway 1 Interchanges Working Group and the Advisory Oversight Committee. As a member of the Advisory Oversight Committee, Roger is one of three Council members who review all District committee appointments. In January 2012, Roger was appointed the North Shore representative to the Metro Vancouver Zero Waste Committee. Roger and his wife Adrienne have two young children. The Bassam family currently lives in the Lynn Valley area where he is a proud member of the Lynn Valley Community Association. |

Robin Hicks, who has lived in Lynn Valley since 1978, was elected to Council in 2005, 2008, and re-elected again in 2011. He is married with three adult children and six grandchildren all living on the North Shore. Robin has a lengthy history of community service, including acting as Treasurer for Silver Harbour Seniors Centre, the Lynn Valley Community Association, and Cruisers swim and water polo clubs. He has provided volunteer services to low income seniors and the Royal Canadian Legion and has taught the Junior Achievement Program in North Shore schools. He has also coached soccer and volunteered with a number of school sports teams. As a Councillor, Robin chairs the District Audit and Finance Committee and is a member of the Museum and Archives Commission. He was a member of Metro Vancouver`s Finance Committee between 2006 and 2011, and has now been appointed to Metro’s Utilities Committee which oversees regional water and sewer capital planning and construction. With an extensive background in accounting and finance, Robin has lectured on government finance at Capilano University, the Government Finance Officers Education Program, and the Municipal Administration Training Institute. His qualifications include a degree in physics and a chartered accountants designation. His business background incorporates ten years in audit, ten years in industry, and twenty years in local government, and spans England, Australia, and Canada. |

Mike Little is a life-long resident of North Vancouver District. He and his wife Kellyanne are raising their four children in the Parkgate neighbourhood. Councillor Little was first elected in 2005 and was re-elected in 2008 and 2011. He has served on numerous boards and community committees, including the North Vancouver Recreation Commission and the North Vancouver Heritage Commission. He also volunteers with Operation Red Nose and the Canada Day Committee. Mike currently sits on the Advisory Committee on Disability Issues, the North Shore Emergency Management Office, Metro Vancouver Port Cities Committee, and is a Director on the Greater Vancouver Labour Relations Bureau. For the past twelve years, Councillor Little has worked for his family business in the overseas lumber market, and works extensively with the Metro Vancouver Port Authority. |

Doug MacKay-Dunn, elected to Council in 1999, 2005, 2008, and 2011, has lived in North Vancouver for 30 years. He and his wife Doreen have two daughters. Councillor MacKay-Dunn has served on a number of advisory committees, including the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, the Substance Abuse Task Force, and the GVRD Water Committee. He is former chair of the North Vancouver School Board, and has served on several School Board Committees including Finance and Facilities, Education Programs, as well as co-chairing the Alternative Funding Committee. Councillor MacKay-Dunn currently serves as Chair of the North Shore Substance Abuse Working Group, and sits on the Police Liaison Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Youth Justice Committee. The recipient of numerous commendations and awards for community service, Councillor Mackay-Dunn's thirty year career with the Vancouver Police Department has honed his strong sense of community building through cooperation and teamwork. He is a strong advocate of Detoxification and Rehabilitation programs for drug abuse victims with increased support for their families, believing that such support will reduce both violent crimes and property crimes, and will dramatically improve the community’s safety and quality of life. In addition, Councillor MacKay-Dunn believes that a North Shore strategic plan will provide necessary services, while ensuring both economic and environmental sustainability for all five North Shore municipalities. He also feels that it is time to strike a Blue Ribbon Committee to conduct a cost benefit analysis of the amalgamation question on the North Shore. |

Lisa Muri |
Lisa Muri was first elected to Council in 1996 and re-elected for her sixth term in 2011. She is the most senior member of North Vancouver District Council. Over the years, Councillor Muri has been a strong advocate in preserving North Vancouver District residents’ quality of life. She is also driven by the environment and the continuation of the District’s family neighbourhoods. A local community volunteer, Councillor Muri served for many years with the Deep Cove Community Association, and was President of GUARD, a group formed in the mid 90s that protected 1,200 acres of environmentally sensitive land from development on the lower slopes of Mount Seymour. She has served on many committees over the years: as former Chair of the North Shore Emergency Management Committee and former Commissioner for the North Vancouver Recreation Commission. Councillor Muri also sat on the Police Commission, the Heritage Commission, the Arts Commission, Metro Vancouver Parks, Parcel Tax Roll Review Committee, and Advisory Oversight. Councillor Muri was born and raised in Deep Cove and she is married with three children: Sydney, Jordan, and Ben. . |

Alan Nixon was re-elected in 2011 for a fourth consecutive term as Councillor. During his nine years on Council he has served on numerous boards and committees. These include the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, Library Board, Heritage Commission, Museum and Archives Commission, Transportation and Planning Advisory, North Shore Transportation Advisory Committee, Lower Capilano Community Centre Steering Committee, Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee (LMTAC), Finance and Administration sub-Committee of LMTAC, GVRD Labour Relations Bureau, North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, Family Court and Youth Justice Committee, and the North Vancouver District Waterfront Noise Committee. Councillor Nixon has been a resident of North Vancouver for over 55 years. His extensive record of community involvement began as a teenager when he was appointed to the Official Board of the Capilano United Church. It was at about this time that he began coaching a local minor league baseball team. He continued to coach and assist when his daughters were active in local soccer and baseball leagues. Councillor Nixon lives in Pemberton Heights with his wife Cathy and their daughter Kirby. Two of his daughters, Wendy and Angela, are now married and live in Courtenay and Kelowna respectively. He has four wonderful granddaughters, Maia, Jolie, Lucy, and Logan.
