Councillor Roger Bassam
A three term incumbent, Roger was first elected to District Council in 2008 and again in 2011 and 2014.
A resident of North Vancouver since 1983, Roger graduated from Carson Graham High School in 1987 and subsequently earned a BA in Political Science from SFU, a Certificate of Technology from BCIT, and is currently completing his MBA from the University of Leicester. Roger works in the Information Technology & Computer Software sector.
Sports have always been central to Roger’s life. He plays soccer in Millar’s North Shore Soccer League, of which he has been the Co-President since 1996, the same year he became active in local politics, and the reason he did. Roger volunteers as a coach with the NVFC.
His ten years of service on the North Vancouver Sports Advisory Committee was a memorable experience where he helped deliver first rate athletic facilities for North Shore athletes. Roger was the first Chair of the Field User’s Capital Fund during this time, in addition to serving two years on the District Parks and Natural Environment Advisory Committee.
Roger’s previous Council committee roles have included the Joint Bicycle Advisory Committee (Alternate), Metro Labour Relations Board, and the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Board.
In January 2012, he was appointed to the representative to the Metro Vancouver Zero Waste Committee and was re-appointed to that committee for his fourth term in January 2015.
Roger and his wife Adrienne have two young children. The Bassam family currently lives in the Lynn Valley area where he is a proud member of the Lynn Valley Community Association.
