10 Pemberton Avenue - Seaspan head office

The proposed project includes a four storey building, approximately 84,000 square feet.

Current status and progress updates

December, 2015 — Construction underway

Construction of the new office building started in December, 2015. The new building should be completed in September, 2017, while site work (landscaping, removing the old building) will continue until the spring of 2018.

October 5, 2015 — Development permit approved

Council voted to issue the development permit for this project at a Regular Council meeting.

Site overview

The site is

  • 40 acres at the foot of Pemberton Avenue and MacKay Creek
  • located on the south west corner of the property at the very foot of the Pemberton Avenue alignment

Current land use designation

This Official Community Plan designates this site as Industrial Zoning – Employment Zone - Industrial.

Additional project details

The building will:

  • include sustainable and green building strategies
  • accommodate the impacts of global warming, including rising sea levels and potential flooding

Background details

In 2011, Seaspan was awarded the right to negotiate contracts to build 17 non combative ships for Canada. These contracts are expected to span many years and create long-term jobs in the ship building industry in North Vancouver.

The award triggered Seaspan’s 2012-2014 modernization project which saw the shipyards transformed into a modern ship building facility.
