Strategies, plans, initiatives
The Official Community Plan (OCP) guides planning and decision making about the future of our community, and works together with more detailed strategic action and implementation plans.
Here are the key plans and strategies that are helping us achieve the community's vision.
Community planning and development

Heritage Strategic Plan
We are developing a Heritage Strategic Plan for the long-term management of our heritage homes, structures, parks, landscape features, and community spaces.

Maplewood Area Plan
Maplewood is envisioned as a complete and balanced community with thriving local jobs and businesses that reflect high environmental and aesthetic standards, complementing the community’s outstanding natural setting.

Rental and Affordable Housing Strategy
Our Rental and Affordable Housing Strategy helps guide developers, community members, Council, and staff toward meeting the estimated demand for rental and affordable housing in the District.

Town and Village Centres
The OCP establishes a network of connected town and village centres, and directs future growth and renewal to these centers, promoting healthier living and social interaction, and protecting our surrounding green space.
Corporate and financial

Corporate Plan (2019 to 2022)
Our Corporate Plan sets strategic directions that move us closer to the shared vision of the community expressed in the Official Community Plan (OCP) over the coming four years. It also helps us fulfill our mission for service and leadership.

Financial Plan (budget)
Core services, such as public safety, transportation and recreation, and investments in new infrastructure and renewal of the existing built environment are primarily funded by your tax dollars. We allocate funds to the highest service and infrastructure priorities.

Community Energy and Emissions Plan
The Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP) will help us reduce our carbon emissions and become a more energy efficient community, while improving overall health and liveability.

Climate Change Adaptation Strategy
Our Climate Change Adaptation Strategy will integrate new science and regional best practices to help us respond to the social, economic, and environmental impacts of climate change.

Strategic Energy Management Plan
Our Strategic Energy Management Plan (SEMP) guides our work to achieve significant emission reductions within our own municipal operations well before the broader community target of zero emissions by 2050.

Integrated Stormwater Management Plan
We are developing an Integrated Stormwater Management Plan (ISMP) to guide how we deal with storm water, with the goal of balancing land use and development planning with environmental concerns.

Invasive Plant Management Strategy
There are over two dozen species of non-native invasive plants established in the District, and we are working to control them in areas where they can cause significant social, ecological, and economic harm.
Sea Level Rise Strategy
We are working proactively with our community partners to prepare, adapt, and respond to the risks of sea level rise caused by climate change.
Parks

Parks and Open Spaces Strategic Plan
Our Parks and Open Space Strategic Plan is designed to promote stewardship and guide the development, maintenance, and renewal of our highly valued parkland and recreational areas.

Seylynn and Bridgman Parks Master Plan
We are creating a master plan for Seylynn and Bridgman parks in order to protect the natural resources of the Lynn Creek Corridor, while creating vibrant, safe, and accessible park amenities for area residents.
Public safety

Community Wildfire Protection Plan
Our Community Wildfire Protection Plan will help us prepare for, respond to, and recover from wildfires, particularly in areas where our community meets the forest (the 'wildland urban interface').

Earthquake Ready Action Plan
Our Earthquake Ready Action Plan is designed to strengthen our earthquake resiliency in four key areas — mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery — by focusing on the people, buildings, infrastructure, and systems that are most vulnerable.
Transportation

Bicycle Master Plan
The Bicycle Master Plan is a joing project with the City of North Vancouver, and guides the implementation of programs and projects that will contribute to an overall North Vancouver bicycle network.

Pedestrian Master Plan
The Pedestrian Master Plan will help us improve walking conditions for pedestrians, and help us promote walking as a safe and sustainable form of transportation.

Transportation Plan
Our Transportation Plan is designed to make the District an even better place to live, by providing many options for walking, cycling, transit, and safe driving.
