Barbeques in parks banned in North Shore municipalities effective today

With continuing hot weather and dry conditions, the three North Shore Fire Chiefs are banning the use of barbeques in parks and beaches, effective today.

All barbeques, including briquette and gas-fuelled, are prohibited to reduce the risk of accidental fire in the District of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver and City of North Vancouver.

How you can help keep us safe

All three municipalities are working together to keep people and property safe, but it's up to everyone to help prevent wildfires:

  • Call 604-543-6700 to report any unsafe fire activities you witness
  • Observe the Province's ban on campfires and other outdoor burning in our region
  • Dispose of all smoking materials safely, as cigarette butts tossed from vehicles is one of the biggest risks for wildfire
  • Be vigilant while out walking on trails, and report any sign of smoke or fire by calling 911 immediately

Light showers are in the weather forecast for next week, but a day or two of cooler temperatures is unlikely to change conditions or the extreme fire rating.
