Council approves grant funding applications for two Deep Cove projects

At the January 11 regular meeting, Council approved resolutions to apply for grant funding for two separate projects in Deep Cove.

Gallant Avenue storm sewer replacement

We must replace an undersized storm sewer along Gallant Avenue to prevent flooding due to increasingly heavy storms caused by climate change.

In 2014 and 2018, flooding in this area caused significant property damage. This project is planned for summer 2021 and will reduce the likelihood of future flooding.

Livable Deep Cove Covid Resilience Project

Pending grant funding approval, the Livable Deep Cove project would create a shared street on Lower Gallant to provide increased public space for social distancing and safe outdoor gatherings that sustains local businesses and improves access for people of all ages and abilities.

This project builds on the success of a pilot program on lower Gallant Avenue in summer 2020.
