Design Excellence and Community Heritage award winners announced

The District recognized recipients of this year's Heritage Awards and Design Excellence Awards at the April 17 regular Council meeting. Elder Margaret George from Tsleil-Waututh Nation honoured those in attendance with a blessing to begin the awards presentations.

Design Excellence Awards

The Advisory Design Panel (ADP) annually presents awards to celebrate excellence in design and recognizes projects that significantly contribute to our community's built environment (e.g. buildings, streets, open spaces, and infrastructure).

The panel consists of North Shore volunteers who are professionals in fields of design, engineering, art, accessibility, and public safety.

This year’s award recipients are:

Award of Excellence

  • Park West at Lions Gate — 1632 Lions Gate Lane
  • Belle Isle — 2060 Curling Road
  • Handsworth Secondary School — 1033 Handsworth Road
  • Hunter at Lynn Creek — 1401 Hunter Street

Award of Merit

  • Kiwanis Lynn Woods

Community Heritage Awards

The annual Community Heritage Awards, coordinated by staff and the Community Heritage Advisory Committee, recognize special projects and accomplishments in promoting and conserving heritage within the District.

There were two Heritage Award recipients this year in the following categories:

Maintenance and Restoration of Residential/Commercial/Public Use Structures

  • 267 West Queens Road (Christie House)

Heritage Advocacy

  • The North Shore Culture Compass project by North Van Arts.
