New Fire & Rescue Services Chief announced
Today we announced that Brian Hutchinson has been appointed our new Chief of Fire & Rescue Services.
Chief Hutchinson has held progressively senior roles in Fire and Rescue Services with the City of Vancouver and, most recently, as Assistant Fire Chief/Acting Deputy Chief with the District.
He holds a degree in Fire Studies, a Master’s degree in Disaster and Emergency Management, and is currently working towards a Certificate of Advanced Strategy with UBC’s Sauder School of Business.
During his time with the District, Hutchinson has worked with stakeholders within and outside of the Fire and Rescue Service to improve training and support programs, and the department’s Emergency Operations Plan. He is also the founder of Firefighters Without Borders Canada, an organization devoted to providing training, aid, and equipment to firefighting organizations in developing nations around the world.
Chief Administrative Officer David Stuart said, "We look forward to working with Chief Hutchinson to continue the long tradition of innovation and excellence in District Fire and Rescue Services."
