A message from Mayor Mike Little

Late last week, five members of my household – including me – began having symptoms of COVID-19. On Sunday, I tested positive after taking a rapid antigen test I received from the Lloyd Ave testing site in North Vancouver. I’m following all public health orders and will remain isolated according to the guidelines. Other than a mild fever and cold-like symptoms, I am doing well and resting comfortably at home.   I am double vaccinated, and appear to be on the mend. Councillor Muri will serve as Acting Mayor in my absence.

Preparing for extreme winter weather

Snow, freezing rain and sub-zero temperatures are forecast this week and throughout the holidays.

As Halloween approaches, we wanted to share a reminder that you must apply for a permit if you want to purchase, possess, or set off fireworks within the District.

Mayor's statement: Metro Van initiating termination of contractor on Wastewater Treatment Plant

I was disappointed to learn of the breakdown of the relationship between Metro Vancouver and the contractor on the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant project. I support Metro Vancouver’s decision to initiate termination with the contractor. It is the right decision in order to protect the interests of the region. The continued disruption and construction is having a significant impact on local businesses in the area and on the Norgate neighbourhood in general, and I encourage Metro Vancouver to find a path forward quickly.   Mayor Mike Little

Homelessness Action Week

We are joining our North Shore partners to recognize Homelessness Action Week in British Columbia from October 11-17, 2021. On October 14, we will be at St. Andrew’s United Church to participate in Connect Day, coordinated by the North Shore Homelessness Task Force. Several local service providers will be in attendance to offer information, a variety of services, clothing and blankets, grocery cards, coffee and a take-out meal to those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.

Join us (virtually) on Sept 29 to learn about reducing construction and demolition waste

A virtual public panel event will be hosted on September 29 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. The event will kick off a three-week challenge in which local groups will collaborate to generate innovative solutions for reusing and repurposing construction and demolition waste. This waste makes up one-third of the total waste in our region..

DNVFRS hosts wildfire training exercise

In mid-September, the District of North Vancouver Fire & Rescue Service (DNVFRS) staged a multi-agency exercise that simulated a wildfire burning at Rolf (Lost) Lake in the Seymour Watershed.

District to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, 2021, the District will be closed for business to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As we observe this new statutory holiday, we will offer limited services, including garbage collection for Zone 3. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is to honour survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities. We are observing this day as part of our ongoing commitment to truth and reconciliation.
