Changes to permit applications and inspection requests

As part of our commitment to improving how you do business with District Hall, we are upgrading our system for managing permits, licences, inspections, and other service requests. Our new system — an industry-leading software platform that streamlines workflow, improves collaboration, and increases productivity  —  is being rolled out in three phases. The first phase launched March 7, 2016.

William Griffin artificial turf field and lower parking lot closed Dec 19 - Jan 4

Between now and July 2016, the William Griffin artificial turf field and lower parking lot will be closed three times to allow for work on the facility parking lot. You will not be able to use the field or lower parking lot during these periods: December 19, 2015 - January 4, 2016 March 14-18, 2016 July 2-16, 2016 Check the current status of the playing field

North Shore Culture Days, September 25, 26, and 27

Culture Days is an annual Canada-wide celebration of arts, culture and heritage where the public is invited to experience a wide range of creative activities. Culture Days is an opportunity to try something new — to play the musical instrument of your dreams, sing Broadway show tunes with a really big choir, attend an artist talk, roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty at any number of hands-on workshops.

The deadline to apply for a municipal grant is January 31

Municipal community grants help support not-for-profit organizations who serve our North Shore residents. We and other North Shore municipalities provide these grants in order to assist groups deliver services intended to reduce social, economic, or physical disadvantages, or improve the quality of life for residents. Fromme Mountain recreational parking and staging area is now open

The Fromme Mountain parking and staging area is open. Over the next few weeks we'll install wood fencing and the trail signage/information kiosk. This fall we'll complete the restoration planting, trail connection improvements, and install the bike wash. The new parking and staging area includes:

Design Exellence and Heritage Award winners announced

This year's winners for both the 2015 Heritage Awards and the 2015 Design Excellence Awards were presented at a special ceremony during the February 22 Council meeting. 2015 Heritage Awards Chosen by the District’s Community Heritage Committee, the Heritage Awards honour special projects and accomplishments in the field of preservation and protection of heritage buildings. There were four Heritage Award recipients this year for heritage advocacy:

Delbrook Lands ideas workshop report now available

In total, we received over 1,000 suggestions for what to do with the Delbrook Lands — from almost 300 people — with the majority of ideas falling into four categories: parks and outdoor recreation, community programming facilities and structures, housing, additional ideas.

Your 2016 property assessment notice

BC Assessment, the provincial Crown corporation that classifies and values properties in BC, has recently mailed out their 2016 assessment notices. These assessments reflect the value of all homes in the District as of July 1, 2015. Property assessments and your property taxes While municipal governments don't control these assessments, we use the valuations to calculate the amount of property tax payable for each property, as required by law. Residential taxes are based on the total average assessed value for all residential properties in the District.

Nancy Greene Way bike lanes now complete

The new bike lanes along Nancy Greene Way have been completed. We added an uphill dedicated bike lane, and a downhill shared bike lane, between Prospect Avenue and Grousewoods Drive (south), to help cyclists reach Grouse Mountain, a prime recreation area.
