Building on global and regional dementia-friendly initiatives, municipal staff, community members and service providers helped shape this framework for how North Shore municipalities could facilitate and provide more dementia-friendly policies, resources, programs, and services.
Recommendations in the plan
- Provide education to reduce stigma and increase understanding about dementia
- Strengthen training to include communication, resources, and support strategies related to dementia;
- Increase inclusivity of social and recreational programming for people living with dementia and their caregivers
- Expand dementia-friendly improvements to the built environment to support connections and participation.
