Dementia-friendly North Shore Action Plan

In 2018 the three North Shore municipalities — District of North Vancouver, City of North Vancouver, and District of West Vancouver — took concrete steps to work together to support people living with dementia by collaboratively developing the Dementia-friendly North Shore Action Plan.

Building on global and regional dementia-friendly initiatives, municipal staff, community members and service providers helped shape this framework for how North Shore municipalities could facilitate and provide more dementia-friendly policies, resources, programs, and services.

Recommendations in the plan

  • Provide education to reduce stigma and increase understanding about dementia
  • Strengthen training to include communication, resources, and support strategies related to dementia;
  • Increase inclusivity of social and recreational programming for people living with dementia and their caregivers
  • Expand dementia-friendly improvements to the built environment to support connections and participation.
