Lynn Valley Road bike lanes
We are installing separated bike lanes on a section of Lynn Valley Road, starting in October, 2016. The lanes will make travel along the road safer and more comfortable for both cyclists and motorists.
The lanes will be installed on both sides of Lynn Valley Road, between Mollie Nye Way and Morgan Road.
Traffic and access
Current traffic status
November 17, 2016 — Tree removal nearly complete
Trees removal along Lynn Valley Road is nearly complete. Access to the south sidewalk on Lynn Valley Road (Morgan Road to Mollie Nye Way) is now closed for the duration of construction. Please use the sidewalk on the north side of Lynn Valley Road.
Transit access during construction
Effective October 24, some bus stops will be temporarily relocated or temporarily closed:
- Relocated — Stop #53971 EB Lynn Valley Rd FS Morgan Rd
- Temporarily closed — Stop #53972 NB Lynn Valley Rd FS William Ave
January 19, 2017 — Completion date revised due to weather delays
Due to significant snowfall, this project was temporarily put on hold. Construction has now resumed, and we anticipate the project will be completed in March, 2017.
November 17, 2016 — South sidewalk closed
The sidewalk on the south side of Lynn Valley Road (Morgan Road to Mollie Nye Way) is now closed to pedestrians. It will reopen once construction is complete. Please use the sidewalk on the north side of Lynn Valley Road.
October 31, 2016 — Tree removal underway
Tree removal on the south side of Lynn Valley Road is underway. Approximately 80 trees are being taken down, many of which are in poor condition.
October 21, 2016 — Median removal begins
The removal of the median is happening over the next few days. The median will be replaced and replanted at the end of the project.
October 7, 2016 — Hedge creature relocated
The hedge creature in the median has been successfully transplanted. It is now located in Kirkstone Park, near the entrance to Karen Magnussen Community Recreation Centre
Construction is scheduled to begin the week of October 17, and is projected to be completed in March, 2017, depending on the weather.
We will temporarily remove the centre median and widen the roadway to create room for the separated cycling lanes. We will replace the median once the project is complete.
Required tree removal
We will need to remove approximately 80 trees to allow for construction. These trees were inspected by an arborist, and many are in poor condition.
The 17 trees in the median will be replaced with 36 new trees in the early spring of 2017, as per our landscaping plan.
Improving cycling infrastructure on the North Shore
The new bike lanes are our portion of a larger cycling corridor involving the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI), and City of North Vancouver (CNV).
We are working to provide a complete, comfortable, and convenient cycling environment that encourages people to use bikes for everyday transportation and leisure.
