Traffic clearing on the Upper Levels Highway

We have partnered with the City of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver, and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) to clear traffic congestion more quickly along the upper levels highway.

In a one-year pilot project that started in March, 2019, sixteen portable digital message signs have been placed in key locations along Hwy 1 on- and off-ramps, and on feeder routes between the Lions Gate Bridge and Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.

The signs operate daily between 6:30am and 10pm, and give you advance notice of lane closures and other incidents, so you can choose an alternate route before you get on the highway.

There are sixteen digital signs in total across the North Shore. Five of them are in the DNV, as shown on this map.
