Residential on-street parking permit

If you live on a street that is marked Resident Parking Only (RPO) or Resident Exempt (RE), you can apply for a permit that will allow you to park on the street. For your convenience, we offer a 'contactless' method of applying for or renewing parking permits so you don't need to come to District Hall in person.

Parking decals that are valid for one calendar year (January 1 to December 31) can be purchased starting in December of the preceding year.

Some rules and requirements for parking permits and residential on-street parking vary by area. For specific details of residential parking on your street, please contact us.

How to apply for or renew a permit

To apply, you:

  1. Scan or photograph your valid drivers licence and the entire first page of your vehicle registration (both pieces must show your current address)
  2. Email these documents, along with your phone number, to eng@dnv.org

We will review your documents and then follow up if we require additional information. Once we have prepared your permit, we will send you a link that you can use to pay your permit fee online with a credit card. The fee for 2024 is $33.81 plus GST per decal.

After your payment is processed, we will mail you your parking decal.

More about parking zones

There are two different types of resident parking zones in the District.

Resident Parking Only (RPO)

A Resident Parking Only (RPO) zone is an on-street area where parking is restricted to those residents whose vehicles are registered to an address within the zone. Residents who qualify can park in the zone for up to 72 hours with a permit.

Non-residents are not permitted to park within the RPO zone at any time.

Resident Exempt Zone (RE)

A Resident Exempt (RE) zone is an area where residents whose vehicles are registered to an address within that zone are exempt from the existing on-street parking restrictions, for a period of up to 72 hours.

Non-residents are permitted to park within the RE zone as long as they observe the time restrictions.
