Automated external defibrillator grants

We provide grant opportunities for automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for residents living in remote areas of our community.

To ensure everyone receives an immediate response to a medical emergency where defibrillation is required, we've established an annual fund of up to $3000 that community groups and ratepayers associations can access to purchase AED units.

Who can apply

Community groups and ratepayers associations are welcome to apply and must provide an overview of the need for an AED in a particular location.

Additional support from a charitable organization for the placement, training, or maintenance of the AED equipment is strongly encouraged.

How the grant program works

Groups can apply for more than one device each year, depending on the availability of funding. Once the equipment is purchased and receipts are submitted, the District will reimburse the organization.

All AEDs must be licensed through BC Emergency Health Services, a Heart and Stroke Foundation program.

What groups are responsible for

Community groups and ratepayers associations that receive grant money are accountable for the installation and maintenance for the equipment, as well as scheduling ongoing training for volunteers.

Suppliers of AEDs are able to provide local technical support and have knowledge about the device features.

The District is only responsible for providing the funding for the AED equipment and is not responsible for the installation or maintenance of the AED equipment or associated costs.

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and funding will be available each year until the $3000 is fully allocated.
