Ways you can pay your taxes
There are three ways to pay your taxes:
- Through your financial institution
- By mail
- At District Hall
Help with property taxes during the COVID-19 pandemic
Right now, it’s as important as ever to pay your municipal property taxes on time. We rely on this revenue to deliver the important municipal services you've come to expect. If your financial situation means you may not be able to pay your property taxes on time, please consider deferring your property taxes. You may also qualify for the financial assistance that the provincial and federal governments are making available.
If you are eligible for a home owner grant, you must forward the completed application to our office, or apply online, before the tax due date.
Whichever method you choose, please make sure your payment is received on or before July 2, 2020, to avoid penalty.
Paying through your financial institution
If you want to pay your taxes through your financial institution, you can pay online, by telephone banking, or in person.
Online or phone banking
Pay your property taxes online or by phone as you would any other bill.
Simply add the number 100 in front of your nine-digit folio number, minus the dashes (for example, 100123456789). Select the District of North Vancouver as payee.
|If your financial institution is||Select payee|
|BMO||NORTH VANCOUVER, DISTRICT OF, TAX|
|BLUESHORE FINANCIAL||NORTH VANCOUVER, DISTRICT OF, PROPERTY TAX|
|CIBC||NORTH VANCOUVER DISTRICT TAX|
|HSBC||NORTH VANCOUVER TAXES, DISTRICT OF|
|ROYAL BANK||DISTRICT NORTH VANCOUVER-TAXES|
|SCOTIABANK||NORTH VANCOUVER (DISTRICT) TAX|
|TD CANADA TRUST||NORTH VANCOUVER (DISTRICT) TAX|
|TELPAY||NORTH VANCOUVER (DIST) TAX|

Once you're set up, just pay as you would any other bill.
In person or at the ATM
If you pay your taxes in person at your financial institution (either at the counter or through your ATM) and you are applying for a home owner grant, you are responsible for ensuring we receive your home owner grant application by the tax due date. Financial institutions may no longer forward home owner grant applications on behalf of residents. Please mail or drop off your home owner grant or submit your application online by July 2, 2020.
When you pay by phone or online banking, or at your financial institution, your payment will be considered late and subject to penalty if it is not received on the due date, or is future-dated for the next business day. Please keep your receipt for proof of payment date.
Paying by mail
We accept property tax cheques post-dated for July 2, 2020.
Make your cheque payable to the District of North Vancouver and mail it, along with the remittance stub, to the Revenue and Taxation Department.
Please allow adequate mailing time. Payments will be considered to be on time if postmarked on or before the due date. If the postmark is absent or unreadable, the date received will be considered the payment date.
Mail delayed by Canada Post will be considered late and subject to penalty.
Do not mail cash.
Paying at District Hall
You can protect yourself and others by depositing your payment in the letter box outside the main entrance to District Hall instead of coming inside.
The letter box is open 24 hours a day, and is emptied twice daily. It will also be emptied at midnight on July 2, September 1, and September 30.
Coming inside the hall
If you must come into District Hall to pay your taxes, limited access will be available from early June until July 2.
To help us minimize line-ups, congestion, and long waits, please contact us in advance if you have any questions about your taxes. We are available to help you by phone from Monday to Friday (8am-4pm). You can also email us any time.
Planning to pay in person using a debit card? Banks have daily spending limits on debit card transactions. Please contact your bank in advance to request a temporary increase if your tax payment exceeds your daily limit.
Physical distancing at the hall
While at the Hall, physical distancing measures will be in place:
- Cash and debit card payments are discouraged (and credit card payments are never allowed)
- If you pay by cheque, it must be inside an envelope
- Your home owner grant application must also be in an envelope, with your name written on it
