Operation Jubilee wildfire exercise

On April 11, the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (DNVFRS) will be hosting a full-scale wildfire fighting exercise to help plan, coordinate, and execute a multi-agency response to a hypothetical scenario where a wildfire threatens the nearby Camp Jubilee and surrounding Indian Arm area.

About the exercise

The event will be staged at Panorama Park, with helicopters taking off and landing at Deep Cove Park, and takes place from approximately 8:30am – 4:00pm that day.

During the exercise, people in the area can expect to hear and see various first responder vehicles, helicopters, and boats. Please note that this is only a training exercise, and no actual emergency or fire is taking place.

Why this work is important

Last year's wildfire season was the most destructive in BC’s recorded history. The 2024 wildfire season is expected to be record-breaking – and start earlier – due to the current weather conditions.

By practicing our emergency response to this scenario, we're able to test our ability to assess and respond to wildfire threats in the community.

This exercise enables us to coordinate a response with our partner agencies so we can put emergency plans into practice and test inter-agency communication in a realistic and safe environment.

Traffic impacts

We are working closely with DNVFRS to reduce traffic impacts to local residents and visitors during the exercise. Signage and traffic control personnel will be posted in the area during the event to prevent traffic congestion.
