Committees, boards, commissions, panels

Council appoints citizen members to a number of committees, commissions, task forces, and panels. There are two different categories of committees — mandatory and community.

Mandatory committees

Mandatory committees are established under a statute and are administrative or quasi-judicial in character. Some or all of the members of these committees are appointed by Council.

This includes:

  • Board of Variance
  • Library Board

Community committees

Community committees provide information and advice to Council and staff on issues of concern to the public and the District. Council considers this advice when making decisions.
