Following guidance from the province's Restart BC Plan and new health and safety regulations from WorkSafeBC, we are taking all necessary steps to protect public health and maintain the safety of our employees.
Temporary outdoor business areas
To support local businesses while helping keep residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have introduced new temporary outdoor business areas where customers can shop or eat while maintaining a safe physical distance.
Following public health recommendations, these temporary areas are typically patios or retail display areas, and can either be on private property (such as on-site parking spaces) or public property (such as curb lanes or sidewalks).
How to request a temporary outdoor business area
If you run a business, you can request a temporary space, which, if approved, you can use until October 31, 2020.
There is no application fee, and the requirements are simple. They include:
- a sketch to show the location of the proposed area on your site
- your intended hours of operation
- confirmation that the property owner approves
Does your business serve alcohol?
If you serve alcohol, the Provincial Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) is expediting approval for these expansions, and we are in close communication with LCRB staff to ensure these approvals are coordinated with the creation of temporary patio spaces.
For further information on liquor licencing issues, please contact your local LCRB representative, or contact the LCRB toll free at 1-866-209-2111.
