North Shore Firefighters add Autism Awareness Training to their emergency response arsenal

The District of North Vancouver Fire & Rescue Service (DNVFRS) is the second only service in Canada to complete a specialized training program that helps fire fighters deal more effectively during emergencies with people who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, and repetitive behaviours.

Restoring fish habitat in the Lynn Creek Estuary

We are working with the BCIT Rivers Institute, Tsleil-Waututh Nation, our government partners, and local industry to improve the fish, bird, and wildlife habitat in and around the Lynn Creek Estuary. Details of this project We are improving the estuary itself (the area where Lynn Creek enters Burrard Inlet), as well as the surrounding lands (riparian area) of Harbour View Park.  The newly restored areas will provide refuge and foraging areas for juvenile fish, spawning habitat for salmon and resident fish, and improved habitat for birds and wildlife.
